The Dallas Cowboys' practice on Sunday, August 9, had plenty of edge, with the offense and defense trading big plays during team periods. Christian Parker’s defense controlled the early stages before Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb helped the offense answer back.
According to many reporters, the practice stood out as one of Dallas’ best so far. The defense created problems in the run game, played tight coverage and forced turnovers before Dallas’ offense found more success later in the afternoon.
Prescott connected with Lamb on two deep throws that changed the feel of the practice. The first came on an over-the-shoulder ball that Cobie Durant couldn’t reach, while the second finished as a touchdown during a two-minute drill, according to Cowboys reporter Tommy Yarrish.
The defense had plenty of its own moments. Reporter Patrik Walker noted that PJ Locke intercepted Prescott in the end zone during a red-zone drill, another sign that the safety has quickly found his footing in Parker’s system.

According to a report by Dallascowboys.com on August 9, Locke missed time earlier in camp because of a minor injury. His previous connection with Parker from their time together in Denver appears to have helped him settle into the new scheme.
Dallas also got a strong showing from the interior offensive line. Walker highlighted Cooper Beebe, who pancaked rookie left tackle Overton during a would-be touchdown run by Jaydon Blue.
The run defense was another positive. Yarrish pointed to Donovan Ezeiruaku and Rashan Gary making early stops outside against Javonte Williams and Blue.
Rookie receiver Camden Brown added another big play, catching a touchdown for the second straight day. Nick Eatman has viewed Brown as the most impressive of Dallas’ rookie receivers through camp so far.
On August 11, the Cowboys face a different challenge in a joint practice with the Los Angeles Rams. Before that, the Cowboys also made a major move to keep one of their defensive anchors.
Cowboys secure Quinnen Williams for the long term
Dallas agreed to a three-year, $105.9 million extension with defensive tackle Quinnen Williams, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler and NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
The deal includes $101 million guaranteed, with $63.35 million guaranteed at signing and a $31.85 million signing bonus, according to sources. Williams’ $35.3 million annual average ranks second among defensive tackles.
The 28-year-old was acquired from the Jets at last year’s trade deadline and is now signed through 2030. He recorded 20 tackles, 1.5 sacks and 33 quarterback pressures in seven games with Dallas.
Williams becomes the fourth defensive tackle earning more than $30 million per season. His extension also gives Parker a centerpiece for a defense that showed its depth and aggression during Sunday’s practice.
