The Philadelphia Eagles have finally put an end to months of speculation surrounding star wide receiver A.J. Brown. The franchise agreed to trade the three-time Pro Bowler to the New England Patriots.

“ESPN Sources: The Eagles are trading Pro-Bowl WR A.J. Brown to the Patriots for a 2028 first-round pick and a 2027 fifth-round pick that is the better of New England’s two fifths,” Adam Schefter reported June 2. “The deal that has been speculated on for weeks now finally is happening. Brown and Patriots HC Mike Vrabel are reuniting.”

The Eagles received the 2027 fifth-round pick and a 2028 first-round pick, while the Patriots added a veteran wideout after letting go of WR Stefon Diggs.

A.J. Brown will be reuniting with his first NFL coach, Mike Vrabel, with whom he spent three seasons (2019-2021) during his stint with the Tennessee Titans, when Brown was drafted.

Brown was a second-round pick (No. 51) of the Titans in the 2019 NFL Draft. The Super Bowl champ recorded 78 receptions for 1,003 yards and seven touchdowns in 2025.

His best campaign was with the Eagles, where he posted 88 receptions for 1,496 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2022, earning him his first Second-Team All-Pro honors.

Despite his age, he still possesses the speed and physicality to be a three-down player and could become a premier weapon for quarterback Drake Maye.

The Eagles General Manager, Howie Roseman, believes Brown’s trade to be a win-win situation after sharing his goals of securing a future first-round pick.

Roseman Satisfied With Eagles' Return Package

During an interview on Monday (June 1) after Brown’s trade, the Eagles’ general manager, Howie Roseman, said that he wanted a first-round pick for the Eagles, and this trade paved the way for his plans for the team.

“I think that when we looked at the totality of the circumstances and having the conversations we had with him [Brown],” Roseman said. “Felt like where we were, where we were going, where he was, that if we could find something that kind of achieved our goals of getting a first-round pick going forward here in the near future...and it was a win-win situation.”

Roseman believes that having multiple first-round picks as assets gave him the confidence to build and develop the team, despite having a gap for executing it in the draft.

“The conversations with him [Brown] overall were positive and just honest conversations, and I think it just kind of got to a point where it made some sense from both sides," Roseman added.

Though Roseman offered few details as to why the trade happened in the first place, he said Brown wanted to play elsewhere, where his Super Bowl aspirations could be met.

Brown was traded to the Patriots, his favorite team in childhood, after publicly expressing his dissatisfaction with the Eagles' offensive unit and their mindset.
