Retired NFL player and former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Irvin gave GM Jerry Jones' comments a sarcastic spin.
During a Q&A session earlier this week on Irvin's YouTube channel, one fan asked him about the Cowboys' future, and the three-time Super Bowl winner knew exactly where to hit.
Irvin agreed with Jerry Jones' recent statements, saying, "He (Jones) ain’t lying, I mean, a lick of defense. I mean, any kind of defense, just a thoughtful defense. Just everybody, all 11 guys on defense that we can think about defense the same time, they weren’t doing none of that."
Irvin simply elaborated on what Jones had said on Sunday at the Grand Prix of Arlington, while also making a snarky commentary of his own. Jones had given journalists a brutally honest review of his team's performance.
“Had we played a lick of defense last year, we would’ve had ourselves, I think, a real playoff run.”
Ever since the 2025 season ended, all talk about the Cowboys has centered on their abysmal defense. The team gave away 511 points last season, setting a new franchise record.
This forced them to show Matt Eberflus the door and bring in Christian Parker as the new defensive coordinator.
Irvin was critically honest about his favorite franchise and said, “Let me say this, the last seven, eight years of watching the Dallas Cowboys, I have seen what I would consider some of the worst defenses I’ve ever seen in the National Football League.”
The stats completely back Irvin’s claim. The Cowboys finished last in almost every defensive statistic in 2025. As per The Athletics' report, they had allowed 4,276 passing yards and 35 touchdown passes with a 7-9-1 win-loss record.
However, Irvin wasn't all cynical about his Cowboys assessment, as he did praise a fellow wide receiver on the team.
What Did Irvin Say About This Offensive Player?
The former five-time Pro Bowler also talked about George Pickens, who recently got bestowed with the franchise tag by the Cowboys.
“I don’t care if you don’t pick not one other player on offense besides George Pickens. Just make sure you get George P. You already got one (Javonte Williams). You already paid him. So now you just go and get George Pickens,” Irvin added on the show.
Pickens had a breakout 2025 season and was the Cowboys' leading wide receiver with 93 receptions, 1,429 yards, and nine touchdowns.
While the Cowboys and Pickens' agents have not yet reached an agreement, Michael Irvin is urging Jones and the front office to re-sign the player.
This comes right on the heels of the news from Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News that the Cowboys are playing coy with the WR, forcing him to play under the franchise tag of $27.2 million.
As Pickens wants a long-term deal, it remains to be seen how the Cowboys approach the matter.
