The Dallas Cowboys walked into the 2025 season as one of the best teams in the NFL. But when the season ended, they couldn't even stand in contention for the playoffs until the very end.
In a recent FanSided podcast, Cowboys legend Michael Irvin was asked about what the team could do better. The 3x Super Bowl Champion then talked about how he met the Cowboys HC Brian Schottenheimer at a family dinner, and they discussed two things. One was:
"Consistency on offense because now you have pieces. All you have to do is refine this. ...Understand what everybody does great, and then come up with five crucial plays that everybody does what they do great, and these are the plays we go to and make it a consistent offense."

The Cowboys had one of the best offences in the league, ranking 7th in points scored per game (27.7) and 2nd in total yards. They have good offensive weapons like Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, Jake Ferguson, etc. Michael Irvin wants the team to just refine and get the best out of them.
He then addressed the second issue. "Get better on defense and you can be back in you could be in this game real soon. And I like coach Schottenheimer, so I think they're going in the right direction."
Dallas needs to improve its defense a lot because in 2025 it was a mess. They allowed 511 opponent points, meaning 27.7 points per game, the most in the NFL this past season.
They also gave away 6,533 yards, the third most in the season. The defense was the primary reason this team could not make the playoffs. And Irvin isn' the only one asking to better it.
Former NFL Player Urges Dallas Cowboys to "Sell Your Soul"
Former NFL offensive lineman Willie Colon thinks the Cowboys should be willing to sacrifice future assets if that’s what it takes to acquire two-time Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett.
"If I’m the Cowboys, you sell your soul, and you go get Myles Garrett,” Colon said on FS1’s First Things First. Garrett would be a great addition to this defense. He broke the records for most sacks in a season.
He also led the league with 33 tackles for loss and recorded 39 QB hits. But what would the Cowboys give up to convince the Cleveland Browns to give up the backbone of their defense?
“I will give up the 12th to 20th [picks], Jerry’s jet, and all expense paid to Cabo. I would throw in instant access around my home," Colon said.
