NFL Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe has spoken out about the Dallas Cowboys’ latest star signing, two-time Super Bowl champion Von Miller. Sharpe thinks the deal is a “no-risk” win-win situation for the Cowboys ahead of the 2026 season.
Miller has signed a one-year contract worth $5.5 million with a maximum value of $7.5 million. Following the signing, Sharpe indicated that this deal could turn out to be beneficial for the Cowboys.
“Yeah, I think this is no risk to the Cowboys,” Sharpe said on August 16. “You’re signing one on a minimum salary. Anything that he gives you is a bonus. He can still rush the quarterback. And if the Cowboys offense is what we expect them to be, they should be ahead in a lot of these games.”

Sharpe gave this take on the Nightcap podcast. The Cowboys have a great offensive side, with stars like four-time Pro Bowler Dak Prescott, five-time Pro Bowler CeeDee Lamb, another Pro Bowler, George Pickens, and more.
With such a robust offense, having an eight-time Pro Bowler will add to the strong side of the Cowboys. Miller, who was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, also has three first-team All-Pro selections in 2012, 2015, and 2016.
Not only that, but he returned to form last year after an ACL injury in December 2022 that halted his career performances for two seasons.
Last year, Miller recorded a team-high nine sacks and 26 combined solo and assisted tackles. His stats included 15 quarterback hits, three interceptions, and six tackles for loss.
While Miller joins the Cowboys, head coach Brian Schottenheimer is not looking to rush him in his first training session or game.

Despite being a two-time Super Bowl champion, Miller has not gotten any reps since the Washington Commanders’ final game of last season on January 4. But Schottenheimer isn’t worried about Miller.
“We’re not gonna rush him out there,” Schottenheimer said on August 17, according to DallasCowboys.com. “There’s no need to do that. It’s more about getting him around the fellas, getting him with (Christian Parker) and the defensive staff.”
Miller and Parker were together for a brief period of time in 2021, when Parker served as the defensive backs coach for the Denver Broncos from 2021 to 2023. Schottenheimer also said he will gradually return to the active lineup.
“He’s gonna be in a ramp-up,” Schottenheimer said. “ I’m pretty sure he hasn’t forgotten how to rush the passer or play football, so we’ll be smart with him. I think he gets in tonight, and we’ll get rolling with him tomorrow.”
Miller is currently the NFL’s active leader in all-time sacks with 138.5. He ranks ninth on the all-time sacks list, tying with Hall of Famer DeMarcus Ware.
Miller is expected to appear on August 25, when training camp will resume at The Star in Frisco’s practice facility.
