Myles Garrett Trade May Renew Cowboys Interest in Star Defender

The Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles were among the teams linked to star pass rusher Myles Garrett during the offseason. But with Garrett now traded to the Los Angeles Rams, the Cowboys are pushed to look for other options for the roster need at the pass-rusher.

One name that continues to surface again is the Las Vegas Raiders defensive end, Maxx Crosby. With Garrett’s trade to the Rams, the Cowboys have one fewer option at the veteran edge rusher position, especially after the void left by Micah Parsons.

Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer previously warned the Cowboys to make the trade as soon as possible, and if they miss on Garrett, the team may really miss reaching their Super Bowl goals.

“I think the Eagles are somebody you always pay attention to,” Breer said during his appearance on 92.3 The Fan in Cleveland. “Dallas… there would be an appeal there. If you don’t do it now, well, you risk in a year or two when maybe your team is really ready to win, getting a lot less for him.”

Though the Eagles and Cowboys did not trade for Garrett, his trade to the Rams underlines another failed attempt to secure a pass rusher after their persistence in trying to add Crosby to the team.

After conceding over 30 points per game last year, the franchise has been expected to add a big-name pass-rusher as part of their defensive overhaul.

According to Billy Heyen of The Sporting News, both the Eagles and the Cowboys missed out on a star pass rusher, leaving them with another veteran option open, being Maxx Crosby.

Crosby has been connected to the Cowboys in trade speculation before, where the team offered three distinct trade options to the Raiders for securing Crosby.

'Each offer included a 2026 first-round pick plus a future selection, but all three offers were rejected by the Raiders.

The Ravens had even agreed to a deal for the player before a failed medical derailed matters. After Crosby failed a physical, he was back with the Raiders.

The Cowboys are still on the lookout for a pass rusher, and there are limited options left other than the elite Pro Bowler.

Cowboys Still Have Options at Defensive End

With the OTA session underway, the Cowboys are expected to make an addition to the pass rusher before heading into the 2026 season.

Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox suggested Arizona Cardinals’ edge rusher Josh Sweat as a potential fit for the Cowboys, helping the team fill the pass-rush void after trading Micah Parsons.

“While Gary, Houston, and the rookies may make for a functional edge rotation, the Cowboys shouldn’t leave anything to chance,” Knox wrote. “If Sweat becomes available, adding him would help Dallas get the most out of its 2026 campaign.”

With Sweat reportedly unhappy with the Cardinals, the Cowboys could make a veteran addition at edge rusher who would provide an immediate impact as a starter.
