New Details Emerge Over Cowboys Potential Myles Garrett Link

The Dallas Cowboys were always in contention to sign Myles Garrett. The Cowboys had a clear need for another premier pass rusher following Micah Parsons' departure. Garrett would have filled that slot perfectly.

Yet that was not to be. Ultimately, it was the Los Angeles Rams who persevered and cracked the deal. Insider rumors regarding the Cowboys getting Garrett on board didn't land.

Joseph Hoyt of the Dallas Morning News gave his take on the matter on why the Cowboys-Browns deal didn't materialize.

"Even if they wanted to pursue Garrett, the Cowboys likely couldn't offer a player like Verse in a package back to Cleveland. Pro Bowl defensive tackle Quinnen Williams likely would be the only player who would intrigue the Browns, but he's 28 years old and not exactly cheap," said Hoyt.

According to Hoyt, the Cowboys did not have a player like Jared Verse to offer in exchange for Garrett.

The 25-year-old is already a two-time Pro Bowl OL. He has 12 sacks and 22 tackles for loss in his first two seasons. Verse has a combined 71 solo tackles and 45 quarterback hits.

The Cowboys do have good players, but none of them have Verse's track record. Naturally, the trade fell through, and the Rams and Browns capitalized by making a successful trade-off.

The Cowboys might have missed the mark on a defensive player, but they have made an addition to their offense.

Cowboys Sign WR Jaden Smith

As per the NFL’s Official Transaction Wire report, the Dallas Cowboys have officially added WR Jaden Smith to their roster. This move has been made to add depth to a receiving corps that already features CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens.

Smith, 24, signed with the Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent out of Nevada back in July 2025. However, he was waived with an injury designation after camp and spent the season on injured reserve with an undisclosed injury.

Tampa Bay eventually released him in April. He has so far played 13 games with 62 receptions, 849 receiving yards, and 7 TD's.

Smith might not be a veteran acquisition like Garrett, but the 6'6" player brings in some freshness to the Dallas squad.

Myles Garrett may have slipped away, but an untested newcomer has now joined the Dallas Cowboys. Let's wait and see how it plays out.
