NFL Analyst Makes Surprising Remarks on Jerry Jones’ Draft Strategy

Jerry Jones bought the Dallas Cowboys for $140 million in 1989. Unfortunately, they haven't reached the Super Bowl since 1996.

The Cowboys' GM has always had his fair share of doubters, given that he makes most of the franchise's important decisions.

After a dismal performance from Dallas' defensive unit in the 2025 season, the fans have major doubts about Jerry Jones' plan for the upcoming draft.

However, analyst and former NFL quarterback Tim Hasselbeck has commended Jones on his drafting ability while speaking on ESPN’s NFL Live.

"I think we've got to give Jerry Jones, the general manager, a little bit of credit. Now, clearly, he's got a personnel department working around him, but they've drafted talent extremely well,” he said.

ESPN also proceeded to show an infographic which highlighted that the Cowboys have the most First-Team All-Pro draft picks at 20 since 1989, tying them with the New England Patriots.

The Cowboys have secured two first-round picks and eight total selections for the 2026 Draft. They are in a comfortable spot to secure key players to support their ailing defense, especially after the exit of star pass rusher Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers.

Jerry Jones had earlier said to the media, “We definitely are going to take advantage of these two number ones [draft picks],” Jones said. “Don’t think that we could do some trading here with those two number ones. We’re going to take advantage of it.”

Indeed, they need a strong draft if they want to dream about touching the Lombardi trophy after a long time.

The Cowboys’ 30-year drought waiting to be broken

Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys had a legacy-defining era in the 90s, winning three Super Bowls in 92', 93', and 95'. Since then, however, it has been a tough drought for fans who are left wondering what went wrong.

Despite strong drafts, the Cowboys have been unable to translate that into on-field success. Despite a strong offensive core with Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and George Pickens, the defense has let them down. They ranked 30th in total defense last season, costing them a spot in the playoffs.

The Cowboys' offseason is off to a good start with them securing running back Javonte Williams. However, their work is only half done, as they need to beef up their defensive line to reach the Super Bowl.

Dallas fans, do you trust Jerry Jones to work some magic in the upcoming draft? Let us know in the comments!
