Bryan DeArdo, the NFL analyst, has reignited one of the NFL's most familiar debates, as he ranked the quarterbacks on CBS Sports. He has positioned Jalen Hurts, the star QB, along with a reason.
The Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts has once again been the center of discussion as DeArdo ranks him in the league's second QB tier rather than the elite. The ranking labels Hurts as a "borderline star," starting debates even after achieving the Super Bowl MVP award.
"Hurts, despite his status as a Super Bowl MVP (along with being the linchpin behind one of the most successful albeit controversial plays in NFL history), is seldom mentioned among the game's elite quarterbacks. That would have to change, however, if Hurts brings the Eagles back to the big game with a new receiving corps that no longer includes A.J. Brown," wrote Bryan DeArdo on CBS Sports.

DeArdo's comments on CBS Sports suggest that Hurts' reputation depends on proving he can succeed under more challenging circumstances.
His resume already has championship success, yet critics often point to the Eagles' team support when examining his performance. DeArdo believes leading Philadelphia back to the Super Bowl without wide receiver A.J. Brown's presence would erase all those doubts.
Hurts entered the 2026 season after another productive year with the Eagles. He is a Super Bowl champion and Super Bowl MVP, a three-time Pro Bowler, and has guided the Eagles to multiple playoff appearances during his tenure as the starting QB.
His dual-threat ability has also made him one of the NFL's most dangerous offensive weapons, bringing efficient passing with elite rushing production.
After Brown's departure, Philadelphia faces a major challenge as they have added a new receiving corps, and Hurts needs to build chemistry with them and adapt to the new offense.
While Hurts' ranking continues to face questions, Philadelphia has made major changes during the offseason, which can be overwhelming for everyone.
Eagles insider reveals biggest challenge awaiting Jalen Hurts
ESPN's Tim McManus highlighted that Philadelphia's offense is entering a new era after Brown's departure, and adding fresh faces under the offensive coordinator Sean Mannion.
"First-round pick Makai Lemon and Dontayvion Wicks, acquired from the Packers this offseason, are expected to jump right into the mix alongside Hurts' new primary option, DeVonta Smith," wrote Tim McManus of ESPN.
"New offensive coordinator Sean Mannion is implementing a different scheme featuring more motions and under-center looks. It's a lot of change, even for a QB who has had seven different playcallers over six-plus seasons as a pro."
Mannion is installing an offense that features more pre-snap motion and under-center concepts, which adds another layer of adjustment for Hurts, who has already worked with seven different types of playcallers in just six seasons.
