The Dallas Cowboys' pursuit of Las Vegas Raiders’ Maxx Crosby may have hit a snag, but they are now reportedly shifting their focus to bring defensive end Trey Hendrickson to AT&T Stadium.

With the Cincinnati Bengals deciding not to put the franchise tag on Hendrickson, one of the best free agents in the market is now available to sign.

By referencing his impending exit from the Bengals, NFL analyst Peter Schrager felt this was the best move for Hendrickson and added that going to the Cowboys makes a lot of sense.

“I think Trey is going to be a highly coveted defensive end in this market. Over the past few years, it felt like this was a lot of strife for a guy who, as you guys know,  has treated everyone in the media wonderfully over the last several years of his career," he said, speaking on the Pat McAfee Show.

Hendrickson has been with the Cincinnati Bengals since 2021. He is a four-time Pro Bowler and recorded 17.5 sacks in the 2023 and 2024 seasons. He has had injuries and contractual issues with the Bengals. Despite a salary increase to $30 million, he is set to leave the Bengals, with the Cowboys now looking to target him.

The Cowboys have a powerhouse offense, but have struggled to pressure opposing quarterbacks. They had one of the league's worst defensive units, ranking 30th in total yards allowed (377) and 32nd in total touchdowns (60).

Trey Hendrickson could be the solution to their defensive woes.

Is Trey Hendrickson a better fit for the Cowboys compared to Maxx Crosby?

The Cowboys have also had their eyes on star edge rusher Maxx Crosby of the Las Vegas Raiders. Rumors of Crosby’s trade had piqued the interest of experts and fans after Crosby had a rift with the Raiders' front office.

However, analysts predict that the Raiders would expect two first-round draft picks in exchange for Crosby. Crosby is also 29 and has had injury trouble last season, too. So whether the trade for Crosby is worth it is the main question to be answered.

Considering this, the Cowboys' attention seems to have shifted more towards Trey Hendrickson, who seems to be the better fit.
