Could the Pro Football Hall of Fame witness a first? Two tight ends have never been inducted in the same class, but NFL.com insider Grant Gordon believes Cowboys legend Jason Witten has a real chance to join Rob Gronkowski.
As the 2026 Pro Football Hall of Fame class prepares for induction in Canton, Ohio, NFL.com’s Grant Gordon has predicted that Rob Gronkowski will earn a first-ballot Hall of Fame induction in 2027, while Jason Witten is expected to be inducted alongside him in his second year of eligibility.
“Will two tight ends head to Canton in the same class? It’s never happened before, but can Witten really be denied again? In 16 seasons with the Cowboys (17 in his career), Witten went to the Pro Bowl 11 times,” wrote Gordon.
Selected 69th overall in the third round of the 2003 NFL Draft, Witten spent 17 seasons in the NFL, including 16 with the Cowboys before finishing his career with the Raiders in 2020.
Discussing Witten's résumé, Grant Gordon wrote that he has everything it takes to earn a place in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

“Witten’s 1,228 receptions (second all time among tight ends), 13,046 yards (second) and 74 touchdown catches (sixth) are too prominent to ignore. The 2012 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year was consistently stellar,” wrote Gordon.
While his records are enough to earn him induction into the Hall of Fame, Gordon added that the Cowboys' postseason struggles and “being just a two-time first-team All-Pro could hinder him.”
While there's no certainty surrounding his induction, only predictions, Gordon isn't the only one who believes it will happen.
Jason Witten receives another strong Hall of Fame prediction
With 11 Pro Bowl selections to his name, Witten has been one of the most accomplished tight ends in NFL history. Widely regarded as the best tight end of his generation, he has a strong Hall of Fame case.
However, Sports Illustrated NFL insider Richie Whitt believes his lack of championship success could ultimately work against him.
“For more than a decade, Witten was one of the best, most reliable players at his position, but not playing in even an NFC Championship Game will dent his chances. Especially considering that in 2027, four-time Super Bowl champ Rob Gronkowski will be eligible,” wrote Whitt.
The SI insider suggested that, considering the Hall of Fame classes are effectively packed through 2029, Witten might not receive the accolade until after 2029.
However, Grant Gordon believes he could earn the honor as early as next year. That said, what do you think?
