The Dallas Cowboys’ stadium design is back in the spotlight after a video that went viral online. The fans flooded social media with questions as to how a $1.3 billion stadium could still face problems that affects their gameplay.

Cowboys insider Dov Kleiman highlighted a problem with the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, the Cowboys' home stadium which was built in May 2009.

“Terrible: Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was warned about the stadium’s blinding sun issue, but instead, he wanted an indoor stadium with an outdoor aesthetic. Nothing short of utter incompetence,” Kleiman wrote.

During the afternoon games, the sunlight hits the playing field, blinding the players while they play. The video showed CeeDee Lamb trying to catch a pass in the end zone in a matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles in 2024.

However, the ball ended up landing free on the ground while Lamb was present to catch the ball. Due to the miss, the Cowboys lost an important game played by backup Cooper Rush.

According to Lamb, it was the bright sun that blinded him, and he lost track of the ball. As he realised what had happened, he pointed two fingers towards his eyes.

Lamb even argued that the stadium should use blackout curtains for the windows, which they do for other events. However, owner Jerry Jones was not receptive to Lamb’s request.

Fans Comment on the Sun Glare Incident

As soon as Dov Kleiman posted the video with a post on X, fans started expressing their outrage on social media. They argued that Jones' defiance displayed stubbornness instead of accountability.

“I hope this issue is being solved before the next season starts. It’s suppose to be Home Field Advantage for a reason not Disadvantage,” a fan wrote.

The stadium was nicknamed “JerryWorld,” as it became the centerpiece of the Dallas Cowboys' brand. However, the renovations seemed futile if the players could not utilize their home field advantage against their opponents.

“They couldn’t create something that blocks it momentarily if the sun is beaming that side?? Call a local engineer,” wrote another fan, highlighting how the issue can be sorted.

The fan alluded to the architecture of Huntington Bank Field in Cleveland. Their stadium is positioned in the same way as the AT&T Stadium. However, they do not face the same problems because the stadium has a solid wall blocking the end zone.

Meanwhile, one fan also wrote, “The most Jerry thing Jerry has done. Can’t wait for his family to no longer be in charge”

Jones previously stated regarding the incident, “The world knows where the sun is.” Therefore, the players are helpless when the sunlight blinds them.

AT&T is one of the state-of-the-art venues for all kinds of global events. However, when the stadium is inconvenienced, it does not put a good image for the team.
