The Dallas Cowboys' defense is catching heat from the fans even before the season started. Safety Jalen Thompson made a bold claim about the defense he will play for in 2026.
“I just feel like we got all the right pieces,” Jalen Thompson said.
His comments referred to the team's defensive acquisitions this offseason.
Just a few months ago, the Cowboys had one of the worst defenses the league had seen in a while, allowing an NFL-high 511 points. Jerry Jones would like to stay as far away as possible from that record next year.
So far, the Cowboys have traded for Rashan Gary and added free agents Jalen Thompson, Cobie Durant, and P.J. Locke. There has not been a blockbuster trade or superstar signing made by Dallas.
Notably, their failed bids to bring in Maxx Crosby did stand out after the Baltimore Ravens' move fell through. But unless those talks commence again, it's a dead-end.
There is still the draft to look forward to as the Cowboys hold two first-round picks (12 and 20), where they could get more help for Christian Parker.
But so far, the fans have been anything but happy with how things are going.
How are the fans reacting to this news?
While the free agency is still far from over, many fans have a feeling that this will not end well.
“Real Cowboy fans can see from a mile away that this time will S**k..that front office haven’t done NOTHING to make this team a contender…Jerry's building a 1000% pretender. The linebacker position still isn’t fixed or an edge rusher. And it makes no sense.” one user commented.
Another fan remained unconvinced, even with the addition of Gary.
One fan said, “They say this every year.”
Some fans even point out just how often these promises had been made in the past with sarcasm.
“I wish I had a $1 for every time we heard that,” another fan said.
Then, some directly took a dig at Jalen Thompson's comments about being happy with what the team has. The team has had a few defensive holes, and one of those was soon pointed out.
"But we only have one starting linebacker?" the comment simply read.
The Cowboys have missed the playoffs for the past two seasons in a row and will need a mega season to get the fans back on board. Thankfully, a lot more action is yet to come before the season begins.
