Linebacker Logan Wilson, who helped the Cincinnati Bengals reach Super Bowl LVI, has called it a career. While he primarily played for the Bengals, 'The Governor' ended his career with the Cowboys.

Adam Schefter reposted Wilson’s retirement note on X, and the fans chimed in. “After a lot of thought and prayer, I’ve decided to officially retire from the NFL,” Wilson wrote.

While the majority of the note referenced the Bengals, as the linebacker spent six seasons in Ohio, the AFC Championship winner did not forget his Dallas Cowboys.

“I’m also thankful for the opportunity to finish this season in Dallas and for the way that locker room welcomed me in.”

Throughout his career, Wilson played 83 games and had 565 tackles, of which 235 were solo. The linebacker recorded 5.5 sacks and 11 interceptions. He also forced a fumble eight times and recovered the football three times.

Wilson further added, “When I look back on my career, I just feel grateful. Not many Wyoming kids get the chance to live out their dream in the NFL, and I never took a single snap for granted.”

How NFL fans reacted to the news

One fan paid their tribute to the 29-year-old from Wyoming, “Solid Career, the kind of player every winning locker room needs but nobody outside the fanbase really appreciated until he was gone.”

One user commented, “It’s a shame he’s retiring and received so little media attention for his service over all these years. New players who can barely make a play get more screen time than the guy who transformed the defense. Be more grateful to great players in their retirement years.”

From 2021 to 2024, Wilson racked up four straight seasons with over 100 tackles while playing for the Bengals. In 2023, he reached a career high, landing 135 total tackles.

“A truly underrated career comes to an end. Logan Wilson has the heartbeat of the Bengals defense during their Super Bowl run, and his 11 career interceptions reflect a linebacker with elite instincts,” another fan said.

Other fans just appreciated him as a player and wished him the best for the future, and mentioned the 2021 playoff run, where they beat the Kansas City Chiefs.

“From a third-round pick to a Super Bowl and a career on his terms… respect that journey,” another fan said.
