Myles Garrett's potential homecoming to Dallas is sparking backlash, not celebration. A recent contract adjustment opened the door for a trade, but fans are already rejecting the idea of the Browns' star defender joining the Cowboys.
The 2026 free agency period has already started shaping the market around Myles Garrett after a key contract adjustment by pushing the bonus deadline, which quietly opened the door for trade speculation.
The All-Pro edge rusher remains the face of the Cleveland Browns defense, but that contract tweak has sparked real conversations across the league, with the Dallas Cowboys quickly emerging as a rumored destination.
The Browns modified Garrett's contract to change the dates of receiving the option bonuses of $29 million. Previously, it was on March 26. But now, they have moved the date closer to before the league year.
Based on multiple cap experts' opinions, if this had not been done, he would have probably become untradable, and this move struck the trading rumours in the market.
According to SI.com's Connor Orr, moving Myles Garrett could make sense for the Browns, and he also believes that the landing spot would be with the Dallas Cowboys
"Dallas has been on a defensive upgrade kick this offseason and was (again, theoretically) interested in Crosby," Orr wrote. "Garrett has the third-highest cap charge on the Browns this season, so shoehorning him onto a roster with Dak Prescott is not impossible."
For team owner Jerry Jones, adding Garrett to the Cowboys’ roster would put his team into contender status, although the deal is similar to the one they had with Micah Parsons in 2025, Dallas needs to upgrade their defense.
Jerry Jones would definitely consider this move, given the fact that Garrett broke an all-time NFL record with 23 sacks just last season.
The Browns drafted Myles Garrett in the 2017 NFL Draft as the very first pick out of Texas A&M. Since then, he has played all nine seasons with the Browns. That Cleveland heritage is exactly why this rumor has received mixed reactions.
Myles Garrett Trade Talk Sparks Strong Fan Reactions
The moment Myles Garrett got linked to the Dallas Cowboys, fans didn’t hold back. One fan summed up the biggest concern right away.
“Nope, because Cleveland wants at least 4 1st rounders or they wouldn't have asked for the rule change,” one fan said.
That price tag kept coming up again and again. Another fan pushed it further, questioning the move itself
“Why would Miles want to go from one loser to another loser! SMH!” the comment read.
There’s also confusion around whether this is even real. Some fans aren’t buying the rumors at all.
“I haven’t seen where they said they are looking to trade him. I have seen that they are not willing to trade him,” another comment read.
For some fans, it’s just simple math.
“Not worth 1st rounders to old,” the comment stated.
Put it all together, and the message is clear. Fans respect Garrett’s talent, but they’re not convinced this is the move Dallas needs right now.
