George Pickens has become a fan favorite with the Dallas Cowboys since his trade last season. He recorded 93 catches for 1429 yards and 9 touchdowns last season. Naturally, the fans love him and want him to stay in Arlington.

However, former Cowboys' wide receiver Patrick Crayton gave Pickens some advice that the Dallas fans feel is unwarranted. During his appearance on the DLLS Cowboys podcast, Crayton discussed how Pickens should be money-minded in the situation.

"Hey, play on that franchise tag and keep auditioning for other teams and stuff, and go somewhere else and get your money. Yes, it is a lot of money," Crayton stated. "That is generational. Your job is to make the most amount of money in a short span while you can and invest it properly so that you can live off of it."

According to Crayton, Pickens should now treat this one-year deal both as a financial opportunity and also a career audition. The franchise tag promises money, yet it is only for one year.

According to ESPN, the amount of $27.298 million is fully guaranteed. Therefore, his idea is that Pickens should go for a bigger contract if the opportunity presents itself.

Understandably, the Dallas fans were beyond frustrated with Crayton's comments and had a thing or two to say about the matter.

Fans Blast Crayton Over Suggesting Pickens To Keep His Options Open

The Cowboys fans are unforgiving, especially when someone indirectly coax their star player to leave the club. Therefore, Patrick Crayton also had to endure some tough words from the fans.

"I don’t wanna hear s**t from this dude I remember him dropping that crucial third-down pass late in the fourth quarter that enabled the Giants to win that game and go on and win a Super Bowl" a fan said.

Patrick Crayton's infamous drop in the 2007 NFC Divisional Playoff game between the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants. Crayton dropped a wide‑open third‑down pass late in the fourth quarter.

Another fan seconded the opinion and discussed the same incident.

"Crayton the reason why we lost in 2007. I hold grudges," another said.

Crayton's error proved to be costly. The Giants held on to beat Dallas 21-17 and advance to the NFC Championship. The fans naturally aren't happy about hearing his advice, as for them he is still the villain in their story.

The fans believe that Crayton's advice is misguided. The reason is that it assumes Pickens can freely maximize his market value without considering his reputation.

Pickens has seen his fair share of troubles. His time with the Steelers saw him being criticized for immaturity, sideline outbursts, and inconsistent professionalism. These issues tend to reduce bargaining power in free agency.

Crayton gave his advice on what he feels Pickens should do. On the other hand, the Cowboys fans dismissed it. However, the important question here is what will George Pickens do?
