Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles went from Super Bowl Champions to getting knocked out in the playoffs. And that looks like it has had an effect on Hurts' contract extension with the team, as per Zach Berman of The Athletic
“I don’t think there’s any clock on Jalen Hurts during the season,” Berman wrote. “If there’s a worst-case scenario in which Hurts struggles in this offense and the Eagles are unenthused about giving Hurts a new contract, then it’s a conversation after the season. But I don’t see the Eagles benching Hurts this season. So to answer that part succinctly: Hurts gets the whole season.”
Hurts is currently under a five-year, $255M contract with an average annual value of $51M, which makes him signed with the Eagles through 2028. Hurts' 3,224 yards and 25 TDs last season showed improvement. But stats alone won't drive the extension

Hurts' long-term future with the Eagles could depend on his adaptability to the new offense system. The Eagles brought in Sean Mannion as the new OC for the upcoming season, their fourth in four seasons. It will also call for a lot of the attack to go through Hurts.
In six seasons, Hurts has cycled through five OCs. Now Mannion, who replaced Kevin Patullo, brings a sixth system
Berman believes that the Eagles should let the offense develop according to the new offensive scheme before making any long-term decisions on Hurts.
Analyst warns Eagles against rushing offensive changes
In the same post, Zach Berman of The Athletic cautioned the Eagles to move patiently, but also noted that the Eagles should be proactive in understanding what system works for both the QB and the offensive unit.
"It’s important that the Eagles remain relatively patient," Berman wrote in the same article. "I say 'relatively' because they need to win games, so it’s not as if they can wait until December for the system to click. But they ultimately need to tailor the offense to what works, which is what they did in 2024."
The Eagles under former OC Kevin Moore made a few tweaks in their offensive system by making it a more run-heavy offense, catering to Hurts' strengths during the Week 5 bye in 2024.
And Berman believes that the same adjustment process can be adopted by Week 6 in the 2026 season before they enter the bye week to analyze whether the system works, based on their weekly progress.
