NFL Insider Flags Tough George Pickens Extension Decision for Dallas Cowboys

Imago

George Pickens' future in Dallas is far from certain, despite the franchise tag. NFL insider Albert Breer has raised serious questions about the Cowboys committing to the star receiver long-term, pointing to his past issues in Pittsburgh.

Drawing a parallel with Kyle Pitts Sr. (tagged by the Falcons), Breer believes that despite a solid season, Dallas and Pickens will want to continue on the franchise tag.

As Breer explained, "Do you trust that, once he’s paid, he’ll continue to grow and continue to work and continue to be the right kind of guy in the locker room, when problems led to the Steelers giving up on him?”

When the Cowboys brought Pickens in, it was clear CeeDee Lamb was still WR1. However, after a season that had an impressive 1,429 yards, 93 receptions, and nine touchdowns, one thing was clear: Pickens might outshine Lamb. However, as Breer pointed out, Pickens had a similar season with the Steelers, wherein he managed 1,140, but staggered in the following year before being taken up by the Cowboys.

Even if the Cowboys give Pickens the estimated $30 million+ contract he wants, will he continue to provide the same results?

Amidst the Chaos, Dak Prescott Sent Him a Message

As a star player who's been tagged before, Dak Prescott had some words for the receiver. After all, they became an incredible QB-WR duo last season.

"I just want him to know don’t change your love for football. Don’t get into the business mind of this. You played last year on a one-year [deal] for not even that much. So, if you can go and get $30 million or whatever it is now, that’s the same thing I got when I got franchised. So go and do it, at the end of the day go bet on yourself. He is a h*** of a player."

Well, the Dallas Cowboys and Jerry Jones are taking their time making a decision on Pickens. The tag is currently serving as a placeholder for the two sides. Jerry Jones and Co. need to make a decision.

Do you think Pickens will stay for the long-term?
