With the 2026 NFL Draft approaching, the Dallas Cowboys still face uncertainty around George Pickens’ future, leaving his long-term status unresolved heading into the 2026 season.
On April 14, Dallas Cowboys' vice president, Stephen Jones, made an appearance on 105.3 The Fan. During the interview, Jones responded whether the Cowboys received any first-round pick offers for Pickens.
“No, we have had no one call with interest in George Pickens,” Jones said.
However, Jon Machota of The Athletic expressed skepticism about Jones' response. During his appearance on the One-Star Podcast on April 16, Machota expressed his disbelief about the Pickens' situation.
“Man, he is asked about George Pickens and he wants no part of that. Nothing to do with anything there, us knowing....", Machota said.
“For him to go on the radio and be asked if there has been interest, and for him to say they have not gotten any calls about a potential trade for George Pickens, I thought that was very telling,” Machota added.
According to heavy.com's Sean Deveney, the Cowboys have no desire of extending Pickens' contract. He states the demand for Pickens would 'drop significantly' if he does not perform well in the upcoming season.
“They seem completely fine with the franchise tag. I know this will continue to be a story all offseason and into training camp but it just does not seem like they have very much interest at all in getting a long-term deal done,” Machota concluded.
Despite ongoing concerns regarding his future deal taking the spotlight, George Pickens has started to be a part of the offseason workout with his team.
George Pickens Focused on Football Amid Trade Buzz
Amidst the trade speculation reports, George Pickens recently shared a personal update on his Instagram account, ahead of the offseason.
“But definitely year five gonna be another movie”, he said in an Instagram video posted a few weeks back. He captained his video post with “5e année,” marking his fifth year in the NFL.
Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott gave a recent update about Pickens, when he discussed his offseason sessions with him at the Children’s Cancer Fund Gala in Dallas on April 17.
"We're just working, no different than any other offseason, obviously, first real offseason of George being a part of it," Prescott said. "Has shown up, been active, has looked great, super excited."
When questioned about Pickens' potential contract extension, he replied, “Leaving all the contract talks and that to the front office."
While many expected him to skip voluntary offseason workouts, George Pickens instead showed up, reinforcing his commitment to both the game and the Dallas Cowboys.
