"Not really gonna face a Matthew Stafford with a Davante Adams": Cobie Durant shares excitement to face the Rams

Cornerback Cobie Durant has spent the first two weeks of the Dallas Cowboys' training camp getting comfortable in his new surroundings. Now, he is getting another chance to line up and hold his own against a team he knows very well.

During his time with the Los Angeles Rams, he regularly faced the team's elite-trio, just as he is able to train with experienced elite veterans like Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and George Pickens in Dallas. And the CB knows just how precious that experience is.

“It makes you great because you're not really gonna face a Matthew Stafford with a Davante Adams and a Puka Nacua when you go into the regular season,” Durant said on the Dallas Cowboys official website. “And you're not gonna face a Dak Prescott with a CeeDee Lamb and a George Pickens when you go into the season.”

The Cowboys will travel to Los Angeles for Tuesday's joint practice with the Rams, who drafted Durant in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

“Overly excited... I went up against that offense for four years," Durant said on the Dallas Cowboys' official website on August 10. “It's a high-powered offense with Matthew Stafford, the running backs in the backfield, the wide receiving corps. It's exciting when you're practicing and going up against it.”

Durant believes that such practices can make the regular season feel a little different for defenders, especially since the priority shifts from physical training on the field to opponent-specific strategic planning and mental prep.

“I'm blessed as a cornerback to be able to come from one high-powered offense to another,” he added. “Then you enter a season, and things slow down a whole lot for me.”

Tuesday's practice will also give the cornerback a chance to reconnect with his former teammates while seeing how he fits into Dallas' defense.

While the Rams reunion is grabbing Durant's attention, his first season in Dallas could be just as important.

Is Dallas' latest defensive addition ready for a bigger role?

Durant spent his first four NFL seasons with the LA Rams and is coming off a strong 2025 campaign. He played in 17 games, recording 30 solo tackles, 10 assists, and three interceptions, per ESPN.

The Cowboys, who struggled with roster depth and reliability at defense last season, signed the cornerback to a one-year, $5.5 million deal and added him to their secondary this March, according to ESPN's Todd Archer.

“The Cowboys have a cornerback need with DaRon Bland coming back from foot surgery and second-year cornerback Shavon Revel learning on the job after sitting out the first nine games as a rookie while recovering from a torn ACL,” Archer wrote on ESPN March 13.

According to Archer, the Cowboys could also use Durant's flexibility to fulfill gaps in the nickel spot if such a need arose.

Meanwhile, the Rams have also made changes to their cornerback group this offseason, trading for Trent McDuffie before signing former Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Jaylen Watson.

Can this reunion give the Cowboys an early look at how their defense is shaping up? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
