The Dallas Cowboys have spent much of their offseason looking for ways to make their roster stronger after having the WR George Pickens on the franchise tag. Amidst this, there is a chance of Dallas being the landing spot for the 49ers' controversial WR after his uncertainty in San Francisco.

The Cowboys have been linked to the 49ers' Brandon Aiyuk, who signed a four-year, $120 million extension with the 49ers in 2024 before injuries and roster uncertainty complicated things. The possibility of Aiyuk landing in Dallas has created excitement despite the lack of any trade talks.

"The Polymarket App shows a 21% chance that the 49ers star will join the Dallas Cowboys," wrote Sami Haider of The Sporting News. "Fans love this idea. They want to see CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens, and the 49ers stand out on the same team. This legendary trio would be completely unstoppable on the football field."

However, the 49ers recently voided the guaranteed money for the 2026 season due to Aiyuk not meeting contract requirements, an unusual situation that may lead to his departure from the team. Pairing Aiyuk with CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens will give Dallas one of the league's deepest receiving corps, as per Sami Haider of The Sporting News.

The defenses would have to struggle a lot to get through these three elite pass-catching threats, which would also give quarterback Dak Prescott the most talented group of weapons. However, there are some hurdles before this trade could become a reality.

Aiyuk is under contract with the 49ers, and San Francisco has shown very little desire to move one of its top offensive playmakers. The trade would also demand a financial commitment or a significant player from Dallas to satisfy the 49ers.

Aiyuk was one of the NFL's best receivers before suffering a season-ending knee injury in 2024. He recorded 75 receptions for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns while averaging an NFL-best 17.9 yards per catch.

While the idea of seeing Aiyuk with Lamb and Pickens is exciting for fans, the financial reality is much more challenging.

The Cowboys' biggest roadblock in pursuing Brandon Aiyuk

Adding Brandon Aiyuk comes with risks. The WR has not played since 2024 after his knee injury, tearing his ACL, MCL, and meniscus. Also, fitting all three highly expensive star WRs under a salary cap is next to impossible.

"The biggest problem is money," wrote Haider on The Sporting News. "Lamb already has a huge contract. Pickens wants a big raise soon. Aiyuk signed a four-year, $120 million contract in 2024. Fitting three highly expensive stars under the NFL salary cap is almost impossible for any team. Dallas must pay many other top players, too."

The Cowboys have already committed significant resources to QB Prescott and WR Lamb, while edge rusher Micah Parsons is expected to receive a lucrative extension. Pickens is also eligible for the new deal after the 2026 season, which means Dallas needs to manage carefully.

Also, Aiyuk's behaviour has been concerning after he created drama on social media by uploading videos criticizing his team and teammates. Adding him would put more pressure on the team's salary cap, affecting other contributors and roster depth.
