Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo recently admitted that not delivering a Super Bowl to the Cowboys remains the biggest regret of his NFL career. However, one Cowboys insider gave a harsh reality check about his off-field preparation that could have played a part in his lack of playoff success.
Mike Fisher of Roundtable Sports, during a livestream on his own YouTube channel on July 17, called out Romo’s statement regarding his regret for not winning the Super Bowl title, citing that he should have concentrated more on football than playing golf.
“I mean, would there be any regrets in saying, 'Maybe if I would have played a little less golf and spent a little more time on football things?'” said Mike Fisher.

"...And so you had to do extra work to get your conditioning up where you wanted it to be if you ever even got it there, because sometimes, maybe when you were working on conditioning, you were playing golf instead," Mike Fisher of Roundtable Sports said on his YouTube channel (@FishSportsCowboys).
Though Fisher acknowledged Romo's franchise records, he also pointed out his lack of playoff success despite playing with the Cowboys for 13 years.
Romo completed 2,829 of 4,335 passes (65.3%) for 34,183 yards and 248 touchdowns across 156 games (127 starts) played, finishing with a record of 78-49-0.
He holds a franchise record of being an all-time leader in passer rating (97.1) and has earned four Pro Bowl nods in his NFL career.
Romo finished his career with a 2-4 playoff record, winning two of six postseason games in the 2009 season against the Philadelphia Eagles and 2014 season against the Detroit Lions.
Fisher believes other factors also contributed to the Cowboys' postseason failures, including the veteran QB's relationship with the locker room.
Fisher points to locker-room chemistry as the missing piece
During the same livestream on his YouTube channel, Mike Fisher pointed out the favoritism and his close friendship with a few players of the 53-man roster.
"Not winning a Super Bowl is likely the top regret for any really good NFL quarterback," Fisher said. "I give Romo some credit here for saying, "My regret is me." It's just too bad that everybody involved maybe wasn't a little more involved over the course of the 13 years."
Fisher questioned Romo's leadership in the locker room as he was comfortable with a close group of friends in running back DeMarco Murray, wide receiver Miles Austin, and tight end Jason Witten.
While Romo accepts responsibility for falling short, Fisher believes a more unified locker room could have helped the Cowboys achieve greater playoff success.
