Report: Cowboys Could Part Ways With 3x Pro Bowler Before Draft

The Dallas Cowboys could be looking to trade a key special teams player. According to a USA Today report, 3-time Pro Bowl returner KaVontae Turpin is being viewed as one of the team's top potential trade pieces ahead of the draft.

“The Cowboys tried to expand Turpin’s role in 2025, and in some ways it worked, and in other ways it failed,” Hanson wrote in a March 30

The wide receiver signed a three-year, $13.5 million contract with the Cowboys that runs through the 2027 season. However, his performances last season weren't impressive. Across 15 games, he only managed 396 receiving yards and two touchdowns. However, there was one silver lining.

Turpin managed to rack up 1,814 return yards on kickoffs, the most in the league. And that was part of the reason why the offense dominated. He managed to drive the ball downfield consistently. It's one of the reasons he's been to the Pro Bowl thrice in the last four seasons. That's why Hanson wrote:

“Even coming off a down year, Turpin is highly valued around the NFL. His game-breaking speed is unmistakable, and with a contract that runs through 2027, he should garner a pretty decent return from a team looking for juice."

Hanson adds that it would be hurtful for the Cowboys' management to do the trade, but they are left with no choice.

Why a Trade Seems Like the Logical Choice for Turpin

It all comes down to the Dallas offense. The receiving corps has plenty of names that will get more gametime than Turpin. And that's what Hanson believes as well.

"The Cowboys may not want to lose him in their return game but offensively they can take the hit. CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens and Ryan Flournoy demand opportunities and there already aren’t enough balls to go around. A fourth-round pick might get this deal done."

Moving to a different team might see him get more snaps as a primary receiver. And for Dallas, it could be a move that works out in the long run. The fourth-round pick will come in handy for the team as it looks to rebuild its defense in the draft.

Do you think Turpin should be traded?
