Rich Eisen snubs Dak Prescott in bold Justin Herbert claim

Dak Prescott led the league in passes completed (404) last year. Meanwhile, Justin Herbert was in a race to throw the most interceptions in the league and finished fourth with 13 interceptions. Yet, Rich Eisen chose Herbert over Prescott.

During a June 13 episode of The Rich Eisen Show, the crew hosted a segment called “What’s more likely.” Eisen was asked which maligned quarterback can reach the Super Bowl this year for the first time between Prescott and Herbert.

“I'm going Herbert,” Eisen said during the show. “I'm going [Jim] Harbaugh [head coach of the Chargers] over the Cowboys any day. I put the Chargers in my way too too early power rankings. So, I'm going Herbert.”

On the same episode of The Rich Eisen Show, while Eisen preferred Herbert to reach the Super Bowl, his co-host, Chris Brockman, believes Prescott would make the Super Bowl appearance.

Prescott and Herbert often find themselves in similar conversations, being two elite QBs who are still chasing a Super Bowl appearance.

While the Chargers suffered due to offensive line injuries and inconsistency across all phases of the game last season, the Cowboys ranked near the bottom defensively in the league in 2025.

"The NFL is a 'What have you done for me lately' league, but both franchises have had similar successes and issues over the past 30 years or so," Thomas Martinez of Sports Illustrated wrote.

The Cowboys have gone nearly 31 years without landing the Super Bowl title, and the Chargers have never won one.

Prescott holds a 2-5 playoff record across 10 seasons with the Cowboys, while Herbert holds a 0-3 playoff record across six years with the Chargers.

Herbert posted a pass completion percentage of 66.4% and a passer rating of 94.1 in 2025. While Prescott finished the season with a 67.3% completion percentage and a 99.5 passer rating.

The Chargers revamped their offense by hiring new offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel. The Cowboys strengthened their defense by hiring new defensive coordinator Christian Parker and made roster additions during the offseason.

Martinez believes that the changes made by the Chargers and the Cowboys during the offseason could elevate the chances of both teams having a Super Bowl appearance.

Latest fantasy ranking reinforces Dak Prescott's 2026 value

Michael Fabiano of Sports Illustrated ranked Prescott at No. 14 in his 2026 fantasy football startup dynasty league quarterback rankings.

Fabiano stated that these rankings heavily factor in a quarterback's age and long-term potential compared to traditional redraft formats.

"For example, Dak Prescott, who’ll be 33 this season, will be ranked ahead of field generals such as Bo Nix or Trevor Lawrence in traditional leagues," Fabiano wrote in his SI article. "However, that duo has more value than Dak in dynasty leagues because of their age difference."

While dynasty rankings naturally favor younger QBs, Prescott's ranking in the top 15 dynasty rankings confirms that he remains a high-value redraft QB in the league.
