Seahawks Leave Jerry Jones In Trouble As George Pickens Price Tag Predicted To Rise

The Seattle Seahawks reset the wide receiver market with a blockbuster deal for Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

However, this could put the Dallas Cowboys' Owner Jerry Jones in a tough spot. Pickens, already close in production to Smith-Njigba, now has leverage for a much larger extension.

"Offensive Player of the Year and Super-Bowl champion Jaxon Smith-Njigba reached agreement with the Seattle Seahawks on a four-year, $168.6 million contract extension that now makes him the highest-paid WR in NFL history," Schefter reported.

"The deal averages $42.15 million per year, and includes over $120 million guaranteed, both setting records for any wide receiver," Schefter added.

This contract immediately raised expectations for other young star receivers like George Pickens and Puka Nacua. He secured a $120 million guarantee after leading the Seattle Seahawks to a Super Bowl win, being his second straight trip to the championship game.

The 2025 Offensive Player of the Year has led the NFL with 1793 receiving yards, reaching an average career high of 15.1 yards per catch.

The second highest paid wide receiver next to Jaxon would be Ja’marr Chase of the Cincinnati Bengals with an average of $40.25 million per year, followed by Justin Jefferson of the Minnesota Vikings with an average of $35 million per year and CeeDee Lamb of the Dallas Cowboys with an average of $34 million per year, per Spotrac.

Jones has to figure something out with Pickens before it's too late.

George Pickens Eyes Potential Contract Rework with Dallas Cowboys

Wide receiver George Pickens contract with the Dallas Cowboys remains doubtful despite him playing for the team, next season.

Though the Cowboys have made some significant changes to the defense line this offseason, retaining George Pickens was a surprising yet an anticipated move owing to his career-best season in 2025.

He will remain with the Dallas Cowboys through the 2026 campaign, making a trade unlikely despite earning around $28 million per year.

Pickens was only 300 yards behind Smith-Njigba last season (1429) and had just one fewer touchdown (9), following him up close with his performance.

This situation likely puts the Dallas Cowboys in trouble if they want to retain George Pickens, as they will need to offer a contract close to what Jaxon Smith-Njigba received.
