So Greedy: NFL Fans Enraged by Dexter Lawrence's Trade Demand

Dexter Lawrence reportedly wants out of New York. The Giants' defensive tackle is demanding a trade and a massive contract. After a down year, however, many NFL fans are calling him 'greedy' and telling him to leave.

Lawrence requested a trade due to dissatisfaction with his salary relative to peers like Chris Jones ($31.8M) and Christian Wilkins ($27.5M). Lawrence, who signed a four-year, $90 million contract extension with New York in 2023, has two years remaining on his deal with no guaranteed money left.

According to SportsNet New York's Connor Hughes, Lawrence is expected to demand $30M per year for a contract. Hughes added that a second source thinks that the number might be closer to $35m per year.

The trade request has been met with a significant amount of backlash from NFL fans, as his 2025 performance was notably disappointing compared to his previous seasons with the Giants.

Over seven seasons, Dexter Lawrence has played in 109 games, racking up 341 tackles (185 solo), 30.5 sacks, and 40 tackles for loss.

During his time with the Giants, he made three Pro Bowls and earned two second-team All-Pro honors.

He reached his best in 2022, racking up 7.5 sacks, 28 quarterback hits, and 68 tackles (35 solo).

But his 2025 season wasn’t up to that performance. He wrapped up the last season with 31 tackles (14 solo), 0.5 sacks, eight quarterback hits, and four tackles for loss.

Meanwhile, the Dallas Cowboys could stand to benefit from the situation. But despite such trade speculations, the head coach of New York Giants, John Harbaugh, was quite optimistic about Lawrence's stay.

"I'm not surprised by it. We'll try to work through it,"the new head coach said at the NFL Combine. "He's super, super important. He's a cornerstone football player, not really a cornerstone, more like the middle stone."

Nevertheless, fans weren’t having it as many called for Dexter Lawrence to move on from the New York Giants.

NFL Fans Push Back on Dexter Lawrence’s Contract Demands

While a section of fans voiced disappointment in the player’s push for a bigger deal, others turned their attention toward the New York Giants, questioning the organization’s inability to satisfy key players.

"He s*****last year now wants more $$$," a fan wrote, while another added echoed the sentiment. "Homie s***** last year," one fan wrote.

The sentiment was clear in other fans' takes who thought their player would be better off in Philadelphia.

"Then leave dude. You are not wanted. Go to Philly, well take the picks," one fan downright said.

Some fans even spoke about how leaving the team wouldn't be enough. They thought an exit from the division would be more suited.

"Giants is such a bad franchise. Get him outta the NFC East. Dexy knows his team ain't gonna go anywhere with a Crash out QB", another fan commented calling out the Giants.

Another fan shared a similar sentiment, noting how the problem could lie within the franchise itself, among other reporting trends.

"NFL Reporters have gone soft. Last week it was Jalen Hurts. This week, it's Lawrence. The real story is the Giants refuse to pay their best players," the comment read.

Regardless of fan sentiment, the New York Giants face a dilemma. Retaining Dexter Lawrence would likely require meeting significant salary cap demands, while trading him could create a major void on the defensive line.
