The Cowboys have been active this offseason, but not everyone is impressed. An anonymous NFL executive believes the team is simply 'spinning its wheels,' failing to make meaningful progress toward a Super Bowl.
“Dallas is one of those spin-your-wheels type teams that never really gets a lot better,” one NFL executive said, as per an NY Times piece.
That line sums up how some people inside the league see this team. The Cowboys stay competitive, but the results have not changed much, with no Divisional round wins in the last decade.
Dallas added around $42.9 million in talent while losing $21.2 million, giving them a positive difference of $21.7 million. That puts them in a solid spot compared to other teams, at least in terms of numbers.
They also hold two picks inside the top 20 of the upcoming draft, which could help shape the roster moving forward. But the focus right now is not just about the future. It is about whether this team can finally break past its current level.
The franchise did try to address the pass rush. They traded a fourth-round pick for Rashan Gary, hoping he can support Micah Parsons and add more pressure off the edge.
“I was a little disappointed with Dallas,” another executive said. “They got Rashan Gary, who Green Bay was not fired up about. They were not necessarily going to bring him back.”

The Cowboys also moved on from Osa Odighizuwa, trading him to San Francisco for a third-round pick just one year after giving him a four-year, $80 million deal.
These moves show a shift, but they also leave questions about direction and planning
Contract Decisions and Cap Management Could Affect the Cowboys’ Plan
The Cowboys are not just adjusting the roster, they are also dealing with major contract decisions amid cap management.
Jerry Jones has said the team has long-term plans for George Pickens after using the franchise tag on him. That decision has raised more questions about how the offense will be structured going forward.
“What are they going to do with Pickens?” another executive said. “Are you going to have two receivers making (at least $34 million, CeeDee Lamb’s APY), plus the quarterback (Dak Prescott) making $60 million?”
That concern is about balance. Paying multiple players at the top level can limit what a team can do in other areas of the roster.
At the same time, the Cowboys are trying to stay competitive in a strong NFC. The moves show intent, but not everyone is convinced yet.
With the NFL Draft still less than a month away, a lot now depends on how their two round-one picks turn out.
Dallas is once again in a familiar spot. There is talent on the roster, but not without questions. What do you think Dallas should do? You can read more at the Dallas Cowboys Community!
