Place kicker Chris Boswell is now tied with Brandon Aubrey as the highest-paid kicker in NFL history. The Pittsburgh Steelers signed Boswell to a four-year, $28 million extension on Monday. The deal secures the veteran in Pittsburgh through the 2030 season.

On May 11, 2026, the NFL insider Adam Schefter shared on X that Pittsburgh signed a contract with Boswell. The deal was tied with Cowboys Kicker Brandon Aubrey, with an average of $7 million per year, and officially tied the two kickers.

Schefter wrote on X, “Steelers have agreed to terms with K Chris Boswell on a four-year, $28 million extension. The $7 million average per year ties him with Brandon Aubrey for highest paid kicker in NFL history, per CAA Football. Boswell is now locked in with the Steelers through the 2030 season."

Boswell has quietly built one of the most reliable careers among the NFL kickers. In more than a decade with the Steelers, Boswell has played in 167 games, recording 299 of 341 field goals. He also has a total of 860 kickoffs and 418 touchbacks.

Aubrey stepped into stardom with the Dallas Cowboys through record-breaking long-distance kicks, whereas Boswell built his reputation through consistency with Pittsburgh.

Boswell entered the franchise in the 2015 season when other teams overlooked him. He has become a cornerstone of the team’s special unit.  He holds a field goal percentage of 87.7% with 353 of 369 extra point attempts in his career.

Why Chris Boswell Remains Valuable to Pittsburgh

Since joining the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2015, Boswell became the fastest Steeler kicker to cross 1,000 career points. During the 2024 season, Boswell converted 41 of 44 field goal attempts, which also included kicks beyond 50 yards.

His consistency helped him earn Pro Bowl and All-Pro honors while being competitive in games. He is also known for the most field goals made in a single playoff game with six, marking his Steelers legacy.

Boswell was the first to sign an extension with the Steelers, set to be a free agent in 2027. Along with him, the cornerback, Joey Porter Jr., pass rusher Nick Herbig, and defensive lineman Keeanu Benton, who were selected in the 2023 draft, are also eligible for contract extension this offseason.
