Despite a tough few seasons for DeMarvion Overshown, there's some confidence from the Dallas Cowboys' management around the linebacker.
The Cowboys’ Executive Vice President Stephen Jones has commented on Overshown’s future, saying that it could be a great season for the linebacker.
The Athletic’s Jon Machota reports that Jones said, "Obviously, he needs to put together a full season, and if he does, I think it's going to be a great season. I think the biggest thing is availability. Certainly, no one wants to play the game more than him. I can assure you of that."
Overshown was part of the Cowboys’ 2023 NFL Draft. He unfortunately suffered an ACL injury that same year in the preseason, which led to him sitting out the entirety of the 2023 season.
During his 2024 season, Overshown was able to record 11 tackles and a sack against the Cleveland Browns in a Week 1 game. Overall in 2024, he played 13 games, recording 90 tackles, five sacks and an interception returned for a touchdown.
However, Overshown's 2024 season also ended with an injury. He had a knee injury in Week 14, tearing his ACL, MCL, and PCL, which made him sit out 10 weeks in the 2025 season.
This led to Overshown playing only six games in 2025. Now with the 2026 season approaching, he will be hoping to stay injury-free.
Stephen Jones is confident in Overshown’s ability. "Because I know how good he is and what he can do for us. I'm fired up about what he brings to the table. The only question mark he has is his injury issues he's had and getting through a full year,” he said.
2023 draft picks not working out for the Cowboys?
Overshown is one of the few remaining players from a largely disappointing 2023 draft class for the Cowboys.
The 2023 first-rounder, Mazi Smith, had subpar performances and was traded to the New York Jets after two seasons. The second-rounder Luke Schoonmaker has been a good pick for the Cowboys, but later picks like Viliami Fehoko Jr., Asim Richards, Eric Scott Jr. and Deuce Vaughn are not part of the Cowboys anymore.
That means Schoonmaker, Overshown and Jalen Brooks are the only players remaining from the 2023 draft.
Hopefully, Overshown can stay injury-free in the upcoming season and provide much-needed support to the Dallas defense.
