Ex-New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs was let go in free agency in March. A former Patriots Super Bowl champion believes Diggs could land with an NFC East franchise that needs a wideout.
The former Patriots cornerback, Jason McCourty, during his recent appearance on the Up & Adams show, predicted Diggs to join the Washington Commanders.
“Stefon Diggs, you look at him going home, potentially to the Commanders,” Jason McCourty said. ”Being opposite Terry McLaurin with what they have in their wide receiver room."

Diggs played for 17 games and posted 85 receptions for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns in 2025 with the Patriots. His best campaign was with the Buffalo Bills in 2020, where he posted 127 receptions for 1,535 yards and eight touchdowns.
He was let go by the Patriots due to his rising salary cap charge, which was increasing from $10.5 million in 2025 to $26.5 million in 2026.
The present WR room of the Commanders has a definite starter with Terry McLaurin, returning healthy after a quad injury.
Luke McCaffrey, Treylon Burks, and Antonio Williams (No. 71 overall in the 2026 NFL draft) will be competing for the spot at WR3.
Diggs would bring elite route-running versatility and proven play experience in playoff games, contributing as a complementary player alongside McLaurin, as McCourty noted.
But the Washington Commanders are not the only team in need of receiving help, as McCourty also suggested the Kansas City Chiefs as another ideal landing spot for Diggs.
Stefon Diggs to Chiefs? Analysts See Possible Fit
During an appearance on the Up & Adams podcast, Jason McCourty suggested Diggs would be a better wide receiver option for the Kansas City Chiefs than Deebo Samuel.
“I would like Diggs more than Deebo, just from a route-running standpoint," McCourty said. “Drake Maye [QB of Patriots] was able to rely on Diggs, and this was coming from an ACL injury, to be his guy. He’s used to being in those positions.”
NFL Insider Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated also projected Diggs to the Chiefs to serve as strong support to quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
“The uncertainty around Rice certainly would put the Chiefs in the market for insurance, and from that perspective, Stefon Diggs would make a ton of sense,” Breer noted. “He's healthy, was productive last year, has played against the Chiefs’ championship teams of the recent past, and could be a crafty plug-and-play piece for Patrick Mahomes & Co.”
He is projected to be a solid veteran addition to the Chiefs' wide receiver room, which is thin post-Rashee Rice’s injury update and legal issues.
