The Dallas Cowboys’ tight end battle has a surprise name making noise. A CBS analyst has put former Baylor tight end Michael Trigg ahead in the race, making him a player to watch this offseason.
CBS Sports NFL reporter Josh Edwards recently named Michael Trigg as one of the top undrafted free agents to watch this season. Edwards believes Trigg’s skill set could help him stand out among the other tight ends competing in Dallas.
“Dallas broke the trend by adding non-Big 10 tight ends to the roster this offseason,” Edwards wrote. “Trigg is more of a move tight end, so he offers a unique skillset relative to what the team already has in the room.”

Trigg’s rise in Dallas is even more interesting because of how his draft process played out. He entered the draft as a player many expected to hear his name on Day 2, but he surprisingly went undrafted.
Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox called it one of the biggest surprises of Day 3. The Cowboys still saw something in him and quickly signed him as an undrafted free agent.
Despite concerns that affected his draft stock, Trigg still showed why teams were interested in him. In his final season at Baylor, he had his best year with 50 catches for 694 yards and six touchdowns.
His ability to win tough matchups helped him earn All-Big 12 honors and All-American recognition.
Jake Ferguson has the top spot secured in the franchise with a career-best eight-touchdown season. Still, the fight behind him is open. Trigg brings a different style to the group, which could help him get noticed during camp.
Now, he has a chance to prove why many saw him as a potential Day 2 talent, with Cowboys insider Bryan Broaddus also explaining what makes Trigg different.
Broaddus Highlights Trigg’s Biggest Strengths
Adding to the attention around Michael Trigg, Cowboys insider and film analyst Bryan Broaddus also pointed out what makes the tight end different.
Broaddus believes Trigg’s size and ability to make tough catches could help him create problems for opposing defenses.
“At 6' 4", 240, he is a matchup problem. He does a really fine job at tracking the ball, securing the catch,” Broaddus said. “He’ll extend his hands in order to make the reception. He does a really good job at using his length in order to make those receptions.”
Broaddus’ comments show why Trigg is getting attention this offseason. His size and catching ability could help him stand out among the other tight ends in Dallas.
Trigg still has a lot to prove before the season starts, but he has shown enough to get attention.
