The Dallas Cowboys have started their offseason campaign, with running back Javonte Williams saying the Cowboys are "at the top" in the NFC East division. However, a Washington Commanders cornerback has disagreed with this stance.
The Cowboys have been practicing at training camp since July 29 at the River Ridge playing fields in Oxnard. Following the camp, Williams praised his team as the best in the NFC East division, but cornerback Amik Robertson was not having it and responded bluntly.
"We’ll see: Sometimes the loudest man is always the weakest man," Robertson said. "You see, I ain’t speak on all that. You see, we’re going to chop wood and carry water. We’re going to put the work in behind the scenes, man, continue getting better, and we’re gonna shine when the lights are bright."

Robertson made his comments on The Exhibit on August 10, with Josina Anderson hosting the podcast. This comment was in response to the earlier comment made by Williams on July 27, when Anderson asked about the Cowboys' position in the division.
"I feel like we're at the top, um, in every category with every team. Oh, the top," Williams said. "But we just got to be able to put everything together. We got all the right pieces. It's all about if everybody is going to come to play every Sunday and can we stay healthy? So, as long as we do that, I feel like we'll be all right."
While Robertson might have clapped back at Williams for his confidence in the Cowboys, the statistics lean toward one of the teams.
Williams, on the other hand, has eyes on something even greater than the NFC East division championship.
Javonte Williams has bigger goals than winning the NFC East
If history is any indication, the Cowboys have plenty of reason to feel confident about their place in the NFC East. Dallas has won 25 division titles since the NFC East began, compared with nine for Washington.
Williams' confidence goes beyond simply winning the division. His stated goal is much bigger: getting Dallas to the Super Bowl.
"Whatever plays I make, I'm just doing it for the team," Williams said on August 2, according to Tommy Yarrish of the Dallas Cowboys. "And ultimately, we're just trying to win the Super Bowl. If that's what I have to do, or however it goes, we're just trying to win a Super Bowl."
Williams has some production behind his confidence after a strong 2025 season. He finished with a 75.3 PFF grade, ranking 20th among 55 qualified running backs, while rushing for 1,201 yards and 11 touchdowns on 252 carries. He also added 35 catches for 137 yards and two receiving scores.
For now, Williams and Robertson can have their say. But with both the Cowboys and Commanders expecting to compete in the NFC East, the answer to who is actually on top will come on the field, not at a microphone.
