Nakobe Dean made his choice, and it wasn't Dallas. The linebacker reportedly snubbed a similar offer from the Cowboys, and that decision has left fans questioning the move.
Dov Kleiman reported that the Cowboys offered Dean a similar contract to the one the Raiders did. Dean went with his “gut feeling” and signed with Las Vegas, a team that won just three games last season.
This would have been one of the best signings for that absurd defense, but sadly, it was not meant to be, and Dean will play at Allegiant Stadium this upcoming NFL season.
The deal, which lasts three years, has an estimated value of $36 million. As per Pro Football Talk’s website, Dean ranked 17th in the top-100 free agents of this offseason.
Dean has been in the NFL since 2022. One concerning thing would be the number of games Dean missed. He only managed to play 17 games in his rookie season.
Throughout the next seasons combined, the LB played only 30 games. Total that up, and in four years, the linebacker has managed only 47 games out of a possible 68. These numbers are just for the regular season and do not include postseason.
This shows that Dean is injury-prone, but that is not Jerry Jones and the Cowboys’ headache.
In his four seasons, Dean has had 226 total tackles, of which 141 are solo tackles. The linebacker has also recorded 7.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, and recovered two of them.
How are some Dallas fans reacting to the news?
One fan said, “He wants to lose. That’s cool. Raiders aren’t doing anything next season.” Another fan commented: "He wanted to be in Vegas more than he wanted to play for Vegas is my gut feeling." The sarcasm was palpable.
Another fan blamed the current state of the Cowboys, who themselves mustered a 7-9 record last season: “Same money and he picks the team that finished DEAD LAST. Jerry and the boys are not a very attractive destination…”
Meanwhile, others didn't really lose any sleep over losing Dean. “That’s fine. Go to a rebuilding team. That’s ok. The Cowboys will just move on to another LB,” one user said.
So what's your take on the situation? Tell us in the comments.
