The Dallas Cowboys fans still remember one Tony Romo performance that ended in heartbreak. Against Peyton Manning’s Broncos in 2013, Romo threw for a franchise-record 506 yards in a painful loss.
A late interception in the final minutes cost Dallas a chance to win and turned a record-setting night into a painful 51-48 defeat.
“Then came the play that still hurts,” a Dallas Cowboys report stated. “With the game tied and Dallas backed up near its own goal line, Romo tried to fit a pass to Gavin Escobar.”

The Broncos came to AT&T Stadium in Arlington on October 6, 2013, undefeated, with Peyton Manning playing at an MVP level during one of the greatest offensive seasons by a quarterback.
The Cowboys entered the game with a 2-2 record and needed a statement win, according to Mike Poland of the Dallas Cowboys.
However, Romo kept Dallas in the game against one of the league’s most explosive offenses.
During his Cowboys career, Romo became one of the franchise’s most productive quarterbacks, finishing with 34,183 passing yards and 248 touchdown passes.
He earned four Pro Bowl selections and became the Cowboys’ all-time leader in passing yards and touchdown passes, adding to the significance of his performance against Manning.
Romo then helped Dallas fight back from a 35-20 deficit, giving the Cowboys a 41-38 lead with a touchdown pass to Jason Witten.
The Broncos answered with Knowshon Moreno’s one-yard touchdown, and Matt Prater’s late field goal ended Dallas’ comeback attempt.
Despite setting a franchise record with 506 passing yards, Romo’s night is still remembered for the heartbreaking way the game ended.
Years later, Romo revealed another part of his Cowboys career that still stayed with him.
Tony Romo opens up about the Super Bowl regret that still stays with him
During an appearance on Pardon My Take, Romo opened up about his biggest regret, not bringing a Super Bowl title to Dallas. The clip was shared by 1053 The Fan on YouTube.
“I’m not a guy with big regrets, I guess you could say, the only regret I guess I would have is that my job was to bring a Super Bowl to Dallas and I didn’t do it,” Romo said. “So that always sticks with me a little bit…the Joneses.”
Romo spent his entire 13-year career with the Cowboys, but his team never reached a Super Bowl during his time as the starting quarterback.
“So that one always sticks with me a little bit just because I had that opportunity and just wasn’t able to do it,” Romo added. “So that part of it kind of still sits there.”
Romo’s duel with Manning showed how close he came to delivering big moments for Dallas.
His Super Bowl regret remained, but the 2013 shootout stands as one of his most memorable Cowboys games.
