2 Weeks Into Free Agency, Controversial Ex-Cowboys Star Yet to Find New Home

Former Dallas Cowboys star cornerback Trevon Diggs does not have a landing destination for the upcoming NFL season.

As per Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay, Diggs is still one of the “most underrated” free agents who are still available on the board.

"Trevon Diggs is looking like one of the best buy-low candidates on the market this offseason. The veteran cornerback may have flamed out with the Dallas Cowboys, but Diggs is only a few years removed from being one of the NFL's best players at his position," read the report

The Maryland native was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the 2020 NFL Draft as their 51st overall pick. The cornerback spent six seasons with the Dallas outfit before moving to Wisconsin for a short stint with the Green Bay Packers.

Throughout his NFL career, the cornerback has played 67 games, made 242 tackles (201 solo), blocked 63 passes, and made 20 interceptions.

Following his rookie year in 2020, Diggs had a breakout season in 2021. That year, the cornerback was named to the First-Team All-Pro and earned Pro Bowl selections in 2021 and 2022.

However, Alex Kay also sent a warning.

"A fresh start could be exactly what Diggs needs to return to form. Teams will want to be cautious of allocating anything more than a short, "prove-it" style deal to a defensive back who has missed 29 games over the last three years, but the returns on that small investment could be massive," Kay's article stated.

The 28-year-old still has his football ahead of him and will be looking at a fresh page in his book for the upcoming season. What is frustrating for Diggs and his fans is his sudden fall from grace that now sees him sit in free agency.

What Happened to Diggs, And Why Did He Decline?

After having one of the best defensive performances in 2021. The cornerback signed an enormous extension in 2023, and things went downhill from there.

The cornerback tore his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in practice that very year and missed a lot of time. The secondary player has missed almost 30 games in the last three seasons. The last season in which he played all 17 games was 2022.

Diggs infamously suffered an off-field injury while installing a television on his patio, resulting in him falling on his head.

He created tension with Jones during another incident. He had requested to stay in Washington, D.C., to spend time with his family, but the team denied his request. He stayed back regardless.

Tensions created by the player and injuries certainly did not help his cause. Trevon Diggs remains a free agent, and when he gets a second chance, he needs to seize the opportunity.

Which team do you suppose will pick up Diggs? Let us know in the comments.
