"Unserious" Jerry Jones Urged To Take Swift Action Amid NFL Arms Race

While contenders across the league continue building their roster in pursuit of the Super Bowl, the Dallas Cowboys once again find themselves under the spotlight. The criticism is directed at the owner, Jerry Jones.

Mike Fisher, the Dallas Cowboys insider for 105.3 The Fan on the radio, criticized Jones, whose approach to team building is being questioned as rivals become more aggressive. He asked whether the Cowboys are keeping up in the NFL arms race on the June 2 episode of his podcast.

"I can only hope that Jerry Jones and Stephen Jones care about this tag," said Fisher. "If I was the one, I would hate to be labeled "unserious." To hear that people think the Dallas Cowboys are an unserious franchise. That test is here."

When it comes to the NFL arms race, Jerry Jones' Dallas got the "unserious tag" after they appointed Brian Schottenheimer as their head coach. They tried to woo coaches like Colorado Buffaloes' Deion Sanders and former New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh.

But instead of upgrading their coaching staff, Jerry Jones promoted their offensive coordinator as the head coach.

Meanwhile, as the Cowboys' rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles and the Detroit Lions, continue to invest heavily in their rosters, some fans believe Dallas has been far too lenient.

Former NFL quarterback Dan Orlovsky previously compared the Dallas approach with the Eagles, describing the difference as "unserious vs serious," discussing roster building and contract management, as per Newsweek.

The Cowboys moved on from star left tackle Tyron Smith before the 2024 season. Now, in 2026, they have also halted long-term contract negotiations with George Pickens, despite his potential to become a centerpiece of the passing game.

The pressure increases with the franchise's long NFC Championship Game drought since 1996. So, every offseason without a win only increases scrutiny on Jerry Jones and the front office.

Many fans believe the Cowboys are competitive but are missing decisive action that separates contenders from champions. However, there are two additions that may have flown under the radar.

Notable Cowboys Additions That Went Unnoticed

According to Blogging the Boys, veteran safety Jalen Thompson and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams have quietly become a vital part of Dallas' defensive overhaul.

The Cowboys brought in Thompson in free agency, bringing versatility and experience to the secondary. His ability to play deep safety, in the box, or in the slot makes him a perfect fit for defensive coordinator Christian Parker's scheme.

He has recorded 578 tackles, two sacks, nine interceptions, and 37 pass breakups in seven seasons. Meanwhile, Williams entered his first full season in Dallas after arriving by trade in November last year.

Combined with Rashan Gary and Caleb Downs, he gives the Cowboys a defensive front capable of consistent destruction, recording 208 solo tackles and 41.5 sacks across seven seasons.

If Thompson and Williams deliver, the Cowboys' most important offseason additions could be the ones that flew under the radar.
