The Dallas Cowboys secured cornerback Devin Moore with the No. 114 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. And the VP of player personnel, Will McClay, shared why they went for the former Florida Gators CB.
"When you find somebody with his [Devin Moore] length and athletic ability to be able to change directions, play press, play off, play zone...and then be 6'3...now your target is going to be a little bit smaller because the distance," McClay said on the DLLS Cowboys podcast.
"Well, if I've got a longer guy to take away that catch radius, that also helps me."
But the reason so many questions have arisen about the Cowboys going for Moore is because of his injury history during his collegiate career.
His only healthy season was in 2025, when he played 11 games. But throughout his four seasons with Florida, he has missed a total of 20 games.
In the 2024 season, he had a shoulder injury and missed six games. He missed five games due to a back injury and a concussion in 2023 and eight games in his first year.
But at 6'3" and 198lb, McClay believes the Cowboys can use him for his athletic build.
"Being able to locate the ball and know where to be, you think there's some positive things in what we're trying to do defensively from the skill set," McClay added.
So, even with the injury history, the Cowboys are quite confident, and even Moore himself believes he's ready.
Devin Moore Says He’s “100% Healthy”
With so many questions about Moore's ability to play, the CB had to confirm that he is ready to go.
"I'm 100% healthy. Ready to go right now," Moore said at his introductory press conference. "I had a sports hernia surgery right after the season. That was kind of the main question I was getting from teams."
Moore comes in with a total of 64 tackles, two tackles for loss and one sack in 30 games. And the cornerback made sure teams knew he can perform at the pro level.
"The main thing I had to discuss with teams, but I just had to make sure to reinstate that I'm fully healthy. I'm ready to go right now and excited to get working," Moore added.
Despite criticism of Moore being a rotational piece, the Cowboys' key personnel are quite satisfied with their fourth-round pick.
